SPEAKERS: Abby Hopper, former President & CEO, Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA); Chris Collins (Ohm Analytics); Troy Roble (Palmetto LightReach); Sebastian Blake (Octopus Energy); Toni Werner (Energiekonzepte Deutschland), Mike Gilroy (Sungage Financial), and more.
TOPICS: Solar financing and TPO; whole-home electrification; homeowner market data; AI and soft cost reduction; C&I strategy; Aurora Solar product roadmap.

Empower 2026 is designed for a solar industry in transition. This year’s summit theme, “The New Shape of Solar“, comes at a pivotal moment: the 25D residential tax credit for cash and loan purchases expired, and the companies that will lead the next decade of solar growth are those actively adapting today.

New research from Aurora Solar underscores the urgency. The 2026 Aurora Solar Snapshot — Aurora Solar’s annual survey of U.S. homeowner and installer sentiment — finds that 71 percent of homeowners say they have at least some interest in solar, yet 44 percent say it costs more than they initially expected, a barrier Aurora Solar calls “Cost Shock.” At the same time, 41 percent of homeowners say it is difficult to determine which solar companies are trustworthy — the second-largest barrier to adoption after cost. The full 2026 Aurora Solar Snapshot is available at https://aurorasolar.com/aurora-solar-snapshot/.

“The solar industry is at an inflection point, and the professionals who show up, adapt, and invest in getting better are the ones who will lead what comes next,” said Chris Hopper, co-founder of Aurora Solar. “Empower 2026 is built around the market solar professionals are actually in — not the one we wish existed. The new shape of solar is defined by lower soft costs, smarter financing, diversified offerings, and customer trust. That is the playbook for this moment.”

Sessions: What attendees will learn

Empower 2026 features seven sessions spanning the topics most critical to solar professionals right now:

  • Abby Hopper will deliver the opening keynote: “Working Together to Create a Future of Solar for All,” addressing how solar businesses can lead through the current market contraction, covering customer trust, financing diversification, storage, and soft cost reduction.
  • Financing in a post-25D market: Troy Roble, Senior Vice President of Business Development at Palmetto LightReach and Mike Gilroy, CEO at Sungage Financial, will break down how TPO structures, including Palmetto’s LightReach lease and PPA products — are becoming the primary path for residential solar customers in 2026. According to the 2026 Aurora Solar Snapshot, 65 percent of solar sales professionals anticipate that more than half of their 2026 projects will use TPO financing, up from 44 percent in 2025, and TPO has surpassed loans and cash to become the most popular financing option for the first time.
  • Whole-home electrification: Barry Cinnamon, CEO of Cinnamon Energy Systems, Toni Werner of Energiekonzepte Deutschland, and Sebastian Blake of Octopus Energy — the UK-based clean energy company serving millions of customers across Europe — will show U.S. solar installers how to expand beyond panels into storage, EV charging, and electrified appliances, drawing on direct experience scaling whole-home energy solutions across European markets. The session is particularly timely: 53 percent of U.S. homeowners say the power grid has become less reliable, and 62 percent say extreme weather events are currently impacting their area, according to the 2026 Aurora Solar Snapshot.
  • What homeowners are saying — and what it means for your business: Chris Collins, Founder of Ohm Analytics, will discuss findings from the 2026 Aurora Solar Snapshot and Ohm’s top data-driven findings for the year ahead. Key topics will include Cost Shock — the gap between perceived and actual solar costs — and how declining prices and improving trust can help installers close more deals.
  • Additional sessions include: AI as a soft cost advantage, C&I in a post-ITC environment, and Aurora Solar’s product roadmap.

“The data is pretty clear — homeowner interest in solar remains strong, but cost perception and trust are the real conversion barriers right now. Installers who address those two things directly will have a significant advantage this year,” said Chris Collins, Founder of Ohm Analytics, who will present at Empower 2026 on May 14.

Registration

Empower 2026 is free and open to all solar professionals. Attendees who complete full sessions are eligible to earn up to five NABCEP continuing education units across PV Technical Sales (PVTS) and PV Design Specialist (PVDS) tracks. Register now at aurorasolar.com/empower-2026.

Aurora Solar’s 2026 Snapshot: 65% of Installers Expect TPO to Drive Majority of Solar Sales as “Cost Shock” Replaces Incentives as Top Barrier.

March 24, 2026 – SAN FRANCISCO Aurora Solar, the leading global platform for solar sales and design, today announced its fourth annual Aurora Solar Snapshot, a comprehensive look at the policy, financing, consumer, and operational trends reshaping the U.S. residential solar market. This year’s findings show the industry entering a new phase: one defined less by incentives alone and more by affordability, resilience, trust, and execution.

“The past year tested the solar industry in new ways,” said Chris Hopper, Co-Founder and Executive Chairman of Aurora Solar. “As policy incentives shifted and interest rates remained high, installers expanded financing options, leaned into solar-plus-storage offerings, and focused on delivering more transparent customer experiences. This year’s Aurora Solar Snapshot shows demand for solar remains strong, but the path to adoption is changing. The companies that win in this next chapter will be the ones that make solar simpler to buy and easier to understand, while building businesses that remain resilient even with policy changes.”

The 2026 Aurora Solar Snapshot offers one of the most comprehensive views of the U.S. residential solar market, drawing on over four years of year-over-year trend data, Aurora Solar’s 20M+ projects, and surveys of 1,112 homeowners and more than 600 solar professionals conducted in early 2026.

Key findings from this year’s report include:

The Pivot to New Financing Models Built for a Post-One Big Beautiful Bill Environment (OBBB)

  • 55% of installers say third-party ownership (TPO) is now their most popular financing option, ahead of loans and cash, and 65% expect TPO to account for more than half of their 2026 sales volume.
  • At the same time, 82% of installers say homeowners prioritize monthly payment amount above all other financing considerations, underscoring how affordability is reshaping the sales conversation.

Expiration of Homeowner Tax Credits Accelerated Demand, Raising the Stakes for 2026

  • Among homeowners who installed solar in the past year, 68% say they moved their timeline forward to take advantage of Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) tax credits before expiration, and 49% of those interested in solar think they won’t be able to afford solar without the tax credits.
  • Installers felt that effect in real time: 62% reported increased homeowner interest due to the IRA, while 63% believe the passage of the OBBB and repeal of homeowner solar tax credits will negatively impact their business.

Energy Resilience is Now a Mainstream Solar Driver, Not a Niche Add-On

  • 53% of homeowners agree the power grid is becoming less reliable, and storage is increasingly moving into the core offer: 31% of installers expect more than 75% of their 2026 projects to include battery storage.
  • Among sales professionals, 56% say backup power and outage protection is the primary reason homeowners purchase batteries.
  • 71% of installers now offer EV charging equipment and installation alongside solar, and storage is expanding across solar-plus-storage, retrofit, and even battery-only sales motions.
  • This suggests the next phase of market growth will come from companies that can guide homeowners through a broader home electrification journey over time.

AI and Automation Become Essential to Lowering Soft Costs and Preserving Demand

  • 40% of installers cite permitting and regulatory delays as a top challenge, while 17% of homeowners worry the installation process will be too long or too complex.
  • Meanwhile, 41% of solar shoppers say they would be more motivated to go solar if providers could quickly produce accurate system designs and costs, or confidently offer guaranteed or fixed-price quotes.
  • The findings suggest that AI and automation will play a growing role in reducing friction, lowering soft costs, and improving conversion.

A Hidden Bottleneck: The Generational “Real Estate Trap”

  • Among homeowners who own their homes, 27% of Gen Z and 18% of Millennials installed solar in the past year — the highest adoption rates of any generation. Yet Baby Boomers, who now represent 42% of all home buyers according to the National Association of Realtors, show the lowest interest in solar adoption, concentrating homeownership in the demographic least likely to go solar.
  • Aurora Solar’s research identifies this as “The Real Estate Trap” — a structural mismatch between solar demand and homeownership that the industry must address through community solar, subscriptions, and alternative models.

October 14, 2025 – SAN FRANCISCO – Aurora Solar, the leading global platform for solar sales and design, today announced renewed recognition of HelioScope as the first web-native bankable solar design platform. For years, financial institutions, including Sunstone Credit, a commercial lending platform that helps businesses switch to distributed energy, have trusted HelioScope’s production estimates in their underwriting processes:

  • “We love when solar installers use HelioScope to estimate the production of a system,” said Duncan Hinkle, Chief Commercial Officer at Sunstone Credit. “If we know HelioScope generated the production estimate and optimized the system size, we’ll basically accept the output in our analysis of the system’s performance — no questions asked.”
  • Solar installer SolarGain added, “HelioScope gives us confidence in our design accuracy without the hours of engineering work other solutions require,” said Robert Neifert, Director of Business Development, SolarGain. “Working with lenders like Sunstone that trust HelioScope’s production estimates makes the financing approval process smoother and faster.”
  • Commercial solar business owner Hector M. Burruel of Chucho Produce agrees: “Working with SolarGain and Sunstone Credit was a seamless experience from start to finish. Everyone was transparent, responsive, and genuinely invested in helping us make the switch to solar. We’re thrilled about the clean energy our system is generating, and even more excited about the long-term savings on our utility bills. It feels great to be making a smart financial decision that’s also good for the planet.”

HelioScope combines accuracy with speed and ease of use, empowering developers and installers to design solar projects in record time without compromising quality. Its proven track record of bankable production accuracy sets HelipScope apart as the industry’s most trusted design tool, providing both customers and lenders with the confidence needed to accelerate the adoption of commercial solar.

Installers who choose HelioScope cut preliminary design time from 2 hours to 20 minutes, empowering solar professionals to create 20 percent more proposals per year with the same headcount.

The Market Demands Bankability
“In today’s commercial solar market, access to capital can make or break a project,” said Chris Collins, CEO of Ohm Analytics. “With financing playing such a critical role in scaling commercial and industrial solar, lenders need confidence that production estimates are accurate and defensible. Bankable production estimates are the key that unlock access to capital for developers and customers alike. Our latest forecast calls for continued C&I market growth despite policy headwinds and bankable production estimates can help developers take advantage of this demand.”

With HelioScope’s unmatched combination of accuracy, speed, and long-standing bankability, Aurora Solar is helping developers, installers, and financiers design and sell C&I solar projects faster and easier. See here to learn more about how HelioScope can support your next project.

Despite a turbulent year marked by policy shifts & high interest rates, 76% of U.S. homeowners see solar as a good investment — up from just 43% in 2023 — according to Aurora Solar’s third annual Solar Snapshot.

March 25, 2025 – SAN FRANCISCO Aurora Solar, the leading global platform for solar sales and design, today announced its third annual Aurora Solar Snapshot. The report explores key 2025 trends in solar policy, politics, and energy resilience, with a clear message: The solar market is shifting, not stalling.

“There’s no question, 2024 was a difficult year for solar. But this year’s Aurora Solar Snapshot shows us just how resilient the industry is,” said Chris Hopper, CEO and co-founder, Aurora Solar. “Faced with high interest rates, policy changes, and other economic headwinds, we found bipartisan support for solar among homeowners and business owners, more financing options focusing on third-party ownership, and increased interest in Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) benefits. This reveals some universal truths: Solar professionals are adaptive and tough, and the future of energy is in solar.”

The 2025 Aurora Solar Snapshot offers one of the most complete pictures of the U.S. solar market, backed by data from over 12.5 million Aurora Solar projects plus surveys of 1,000+ solar professionals, 1,000 homeowners, and 500 commercial property owners.

Solar sentiment is rising sharply across generations and political lines, as grid instability and climate change refocus the case for solar. Key findings include:

The Value of Solar Investment is Growing Among Property Owners

  • Homeowners increasingly view solar as a smart financial move, with 76% believing it’s a good investment — an impressive increase from just 43% in 2023
  • Younger generations are especially enthusiastic about solar: 92% of Gen Z and 83% of Millennials think solar is a good investment, compared to 75% of Gen X and 67% of Baby Boomers
  • 47% of commercial property owners view solar as a long-term investment, with 57% citing reduced energy bills as a top motivator for going solar

The IRA Continues to Drive Solar Adoption, but Awareness Gaps Persist

  • Overwhelmingly, 86% of homeowners and 74% of businesses do not want the IRA repealed; 70% of solar professionals said their businesses would be negatively impacted if the IRA were repealed
  • 71% of businesses capitalized on IRA benefits, whereas nearly 40% of homeowners admit they still don’t know how to take advantage of these incentives
  • Awareness of the IRA surged from 23% in 2024 to 41% in 2025, but a majority of homeowners remain unaware of the full range of benefits

Energy Resilience and Grid Reliability are Key Drivers for Solar Interest

  • 60% of homeowners believe extreme weather and climate change are directly impacting their lives, a significant rise from 41% in 2024. Moreover, 65% of solar installers report a surge in solar interest following natural disasters, underscoring how climate-related events are accelerating the adoption of solar
  • For businesses, solar’s environmental impact is now a primary motivator: 22% cite reducing their carbon footprint as a top reason for adopting solar, surpassing monthly cost savings (20%). Notably, 67% of businesses agree climate change is affecting their operations
  • Climate change is becoming a less partisan issue, with 67% of Democrats and 56% of Republicans acknowledging its local impact

GoodLeap and LightReach debut in Aurora Solar’s Third-Party Ownership ecosystem

September 10, 2024 – SAN FRANCISCO – Aurora Solar, the leading platform for solar sales and design, today announced its Third-Party Ownership (TPO) program with the addition of GoodLeap and LightReach to its platform. These companies will provide solar installers and their homeowner customers with affordable, accessible leasing and Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) options for going solar. Aurora Solar’s partner ecosystem empowers solar installers to optimize their sales and financing approach in every market they serve. GoodLeap and LightReach — the TPO market leaders — joining Aurora Solar’s platform will help installers quickly deploy the best TPO solutions to homeowners during this critical time for the solar industry.

According to Aurora Solar’s 2024 Solar Industry Snapshot, 75% of homeowners who do not have solar (but are interested) said overall system and installation costs are a big concern. Of these respondents, 54% said interest rates are too high. At the same time, just 15% of homeowners said they were paying for their PV system through a leasing program. Education around third-party ownership could open doors for homeowners and installers to overcome high rates and move out of the “interest stage.”

“While the solar coaster has certainly been more ‘valley’ than ‘peak’ in recent years, we are resilient, and we are innovative. Aurora Solar is committed to its mission to create a future of solar for all; the additions of GoodLeap and LightReach to our partner ecosystem empowers solar pros and homeowners to access solar in today’s world of high interest rates and utility rates,” said Carina Brockl, Chief Revenue Officer, Aurora Solar. “We’re thrilled to help the solar community unlock accuracy, flexibility, and cost-savings to spur growth in residential solar through TPO — especially when paired with our whole home electrification solutions — to build trust with installers and make solar more accessible.”

Debut companies in Aurora Solar’s TPO ecosystem include:

  • GoodLeap –  a technology company delivering best-in-class financing and software products for sustainable solutions, from solar panels and batteries to energy-efficient HVAC, heat pumps, roofing, windows, and more.
  • LightReach –  the TPO energy plan from Palmetto, an award-winning clean tech company and solar industry leader. LightReach uses modern technology to integrate with sales platforms like Aurora to make it faster and more efficient for homeowners to access lease and PPA financing for storage and solar projects, and start saving money on their utility bills.

“With Aurora Solar’s new TPO ecosystem and growing list of partners, we can provide flexible financing options while streamlining the experience for both homeowners and our sales teams,” said Rob Angell, VP of Sales Operations at Freedom Forever. “By simplifying and increasing continuity throughout the solar installation process, all parties benefit from Aurora Solar’s industry-leading platform.”

Revolutionizing Large-Scale C&I Solar Design with Cutting-Edge AI Integration

August 27, 2024 – SAN FRANCISCO – Aurora Solar, the leading global platform for solar sales and design, today announced it will launch HelioScope Similar Obstruction Detection at RE+ in September. Built with Aurora Solar’s proprietary AI technology, HelioScope Similar Obstruction Detection streamlines the process of identifying and creating “keepouts” — or areas where modules should not be placed, such as a skylight — for rooftop obstructions in commercial and industrial (C&I) solar projects.

As C&I solar projects get bigger and more complex, the challenge of managing numerous obstructions — everything from HVAC units to vents — has become increasingly daunting. Traditionally, finding and creating keepouts for these obstructions has been a time-consuming, manual task, extending design timelines and creating inefficiencies. HelioScope Similar Obstruction Detection addresses these challenges by drastically reducing the time required to locate and manage rooftop obstructions.

Features and Benefits:

  • Increased Efficiency: As the first AI-based detection solution for large scale C&I solar projects, HelioScope Similar Obstruction Detection uses Aurora Solar’s proprietary AI technology to identify and create keepouts for similar obstructions in a fraction of the time. What typically takes 10-15 minutes to do manually can now be automated in just 10-15 seconds.
  • Accelerated Project Timelines: By automating detection and keepout creation processes, solar developers and Engineering, Procurement, and Construction companies (EPCs) can accelerate their design timelines, enabling them to focus on higher-value tasks and deliver more proposals.
  • Support for Larger Projects: While AI-based obstruction detection is not new to residential solar, its use in C&I solar has been limited to small rooftop projects. With the introduction of HelioScope Similar Obstruction Detection, C&I solar professionals will be able to confidently automate the accurate detection and creation of keepouts on even the largest rooftops systems.

Paul Grana, GM, HelioSope at Aurora Solar said, “By integrating Aurora’s state-of-the-art AI technology in HelioScope, we’re expanding our capabilities as the world’s most trusted solar software, providing a solution that speeds up the design process, and enhances the accuracy of preliminary designs.”

July 15, 2024 – SAN FRANCISCOAurora Solar, the leading platform for solar sales and design, today announced it acquired Lyra*, the leading provider of instant plan set packages. Lyra’s permit packaging software helps solar professionals automate, create, and export permit-ready design plans.

The solar permitting process can be challenging for homeowners and installers alike. Complex regulations from Authority Having Jurisdictions (AHJs) and the solar industry’s heavy reliance on manual data entry contribute to significant delays — and ultimately costs — to solar installations. Integrating Lyra into the Aurora Solar platform will help alleviate these challenges by providing instant, permit-ready proposals, backed by Aurora’s industry-leading accuracy. The integration will empower solar installers to deliver projects faster, with lower costs, to enable more solar installations.

“Lyra’s advanced automation software for plan sets is the solution the solar industry needs to alleviate a key homeowner pain point — the often agonizing local permitting process – and cut down on wasted time and energy for solar professionals,” said Chris Hopper, CEO at Aurora Solar. “We’re proud to be the most trusted and accurate solar sales and design tool, with 80% of the top U.S. installers relying on our platform. Our intention is to be the market leader in U.S. residential plan set services and automation; the acquisition of Lyra significantly accelerates our ability to achieve this goal.”
